Adding Fields to a Web Part |
Columns display
the information that constitutes each item in a list or library. At the top of each
column is the name of the column. When you add an item to the list or library,
you fill out a form in which each column is represented by a field. Each field is
labeled with the name of the column. If you provide a description for the column,
the description appears below the field.

Click
on the title bar to open the Web part (as shown at the right)
- In the Actions menu, click the Modify settings and columns link
- The Customize screen will display
- Scroll down to the Columns section:

- All of the columns currently included in the Web part will be listed, as shown
above.

| CHANGING AN
EXISTING COLUMN |
- To change the settings of a specific column, click on the name of the column
(ie: Title, Begin, End, etc.)
- The Change Column screen will display
- The available settings will depend of the type of Web part that you are working
with.
Note: Some types of data cannot be converted when you change a column type.
For example, if you change a column with multiple lines of text into a number column,
the existing text data is lost.
- Make your changes and click OK.

| ADDING A NEW
COLUMN |
- From the Columns list, click Add a new column
- The Add Column screen will display
- In the Column name field, type a name for your new field
- Select the type of information you will track in this field
Note: Click
here for details about each available option
- Based on the type selected in Step 4, the Optional Settings for this Column
section will change to reflect the appropriate options for the field type
- When finished configuring your new field, click OK

| DELETING A
COLUMN |
- In the Columns section, click the name of the column you want to
delete
- At the bottom of the page, click Delete
Note: There are certain built-in columns, such as Title, that you cannot
delete.
- The following warning message will appear:
This column will be removed and all the data stored in that column will be
permanently deleted. Are you sure you want to delete this column?
- Click OK to complete the deletion process
